Hernandez is human after all

The goals continued to flow for Mexico at the Gold Cup on Sunday night, although Reds striker Javier Hernandez failed to get on the scoresheet in his side's 4-1 win over Costa Rica.

Hernandez netted five times in the tournament's first two games, including a hat-trick in the opener against El Salvador, but couldn't find a way past Costa Rica goalkeeper Keilor Navas on this occasion.

Uncharacteristically, the 23-year-old squandered a number of one-on-one chances during the game before he was forced from the field in the 84th minute when an off-the-ball incident left him nursing a black eye.

Sunday's victory sends Mexico into the knockout stages as Group A winners and they'll face one of the two best third-placed teams from Group B or Group C in the quarter-finals.

That last-eight game will be played on Saturday 18 June at New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.
